Sorry if this has been asked(I'm sure it has), but I did a search, and couldn't find it.

Just reformatted an xp home laptop. When it boots up it gives two options that you have to choose from...xp home edition and xp home edition (yes, i meant to type the same thing twice in a row). How do I fix it so that it no longer asks me this when I reboot the computer.

Thanks for any help you can offer!

This is fairly simple to do.

Go to your C:\ directory and look for the file "boot.ini"
It may be hidden.

If it's not hidden, just double click on the file or open with Notepad.
A normal boot.ini file would look something like this:

[boot loader]
timeout=30
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /fastdetect /NoExecute=OptIn

Yours probably just has a second entry that is exactly the same as your first entry.
Just remove the second entry because it is the old entry.
Save the file and the next time you reboot, you will not get that screen any more.

If it's hidden, go to click on "Tools" -> "Folder Options.." in the title bar.
Then "Folder Options" should open, click on the "View" tab.
Under "Advanced settings:" you should see "Hidden files and folders".
Click "Show hidden files and folders".
Now you can do the above steps to fix your problem.

or you could:

Right click "My Cmputer" / Properties / Advanced / Start Up & Recovery / Setting and change it to not to display a second OS, I think just uncheck time to select other OS.
