boot problems

here's a summary of what i've done

k8vse, 3200+, nec dvdrw nd-2500(secondary ide master), seagate 160gb 8mb pata drive M# st3160023a (primary IDE Master)

i've cleared the cmos....so now i'm trying to boot ol' XP off the CD

my bios does recognize the DVDRW drive (set as first thing to boot off of) but for some reason its not working.
