boot problems

It all started about an hour ago, I've opened up my case in order to take out my network card (The computer didn't really identify it and I thought that taking it out / in might help). So i did it, put it all back together, turned the computer on and got this nice and cheerful message - BOOT DISK FAILURE - INSERT SYSTEM DISK AND PRESS ENTER. I figured that i might've touched my Harddisks cables, so I've reconneced them, didn't help. nor did clearing the bios or putting the NIC back in (that's all I could think of) - any other ideas ?
 
I could go and tell you you did something wrong. Then I would tell you what it could have been, then youll come back saying it doenst work, then Ill tell yopu somehing else, and that wont work either.
Your best bet: take it all apart and recconect everything back together very carefully. Check your bios settings one by one and try again.
 
do you have a floppy disk in your floppy disk drive?

set the boot order to 1.hdd 2.disabled 3.disabled (i do this for quickest bootup. i rarely need to boot from cd or floppy anyway).

Funny, story. When I got my first PC ( about 6 - 7 years ago ) and had left a floppy in it one time, I got this same error message. I was only 12-13, and didn't know what was going on, so I freaked out, not knowing what was wrong. I put in the Windows95 System disk, and somehow it ended up asking me to format my HD. So yeah, make sure you don't have a floppy in there, 'casue you don't have to format like I ended up doing, just take out the floppy..... 🙁
