Boot Problems with KT333 Dragon Ultra

My setup:

SY-KT333 Dragon Ultra (Platinum Edition) --> new, just out of the static bag
512MB PC2700 PNY memory stick --> also new
an Aspire 500w power supply --> also also new
AMD XP 1700+ --> had it forever
40GB Barracuda ATA HD --> as old as the proc
ATI All-in-Wonder 9600 PRO --> had it for quite some time

The problem:

? The board powers on ~ both heatsink and video card fans run, the green LED next to the CMOS jumper turns on
? The case speaker endlessly emits a beep pattern of a 2 second beep followed by a 4 second rest
? There is a disconcerting lack of video to the monitor >_<

What I've tried so far:

? Resetting the CMOS
? Reseating the RAM
? Reseating the video card
? Reseating all other connections (IDE, power, etc)
? Running the motherboard out of the case
? Replacing RAM (I took it back to Best Buy, brought back an exact replacement)
? Reviewing (should be "visually checking," but that doesn't start with an "R) the motherboard for damage

What I havn't tried yet:

? Smashing the mobo with a hammer
? Praying to dark gods
? "RMA-ing teh suxxor"

Has anyone encountered a similar problem?
Does anyone have a good idea what the problem might be? (aside from buying a Soyo motherboard, thanks)

Didn't the board come with a black cat and a sinister-looking knife? Where's the nearest graveyard to your place, anyway?

You might try holding down the Insert key before & during power-up. That overrides the Soyo Fan-Off Control so you can get into the BIOS and disable FOC. FOC watches the CPU-fan header and will not let the board POST if it doesn't detect a satisfactory RPM signal on that particular header.

The speaker still beeps at me and there is still no video.
I tried holding down the insert key before power-up and holding down the key right after power-up.
I continue to hold down the key through three beep cycles.

No dice >_<

*sigh*

Bigger picture: you really didn't want a crummy old KT333 board anyway, did you? :)

Before declaring it a loss, you might go through this list of no-POST/no-run issues: top link on this page. The ATX12V cable is one thing that people overlook sometimes, to start with an easy one (if your Soyo uses one). The board's Clear CMOS jumper could also have been shipped in the Clear position. And many more :)

If you have another good power supply, try that too, because Aspire... :p yeah. Good luck, and welcome to the Forums :)

Thanks for the help, mechBgon ^_^

In the end, though, I think I'll try talking to Soyo's tech support tomorrow to get an RMA referance number.
I'll post some sort of conclusion later once this is resolved, but I have a feeling the board is defective.

Also, thanks for the welcome ^_^
