Boot problem

hey i just switched my HD and installed xp to it but it wont boot. It gives me the please insert disc.

I can however boot using a gpart disc and say boot from hard drive 1. The bios is set up correctly i believe my mbr is messed up though. How can i check/fix the mbr?

i think i may just use some sort of boot manager for now. But hopefully this problem will not presist after i reinstall on new hd

What about booting from your XP disc, or going into your recovery console (always install locally), and running fixmbr?

i tried that but i didnt see any thing that said recovery console? Is it right in the beginning before it loads all the files?
