Boot problem with gf's laptop

Hey all,
My gf's laptop is having a really weird problem. It's a Toshiba M200 (tablet) laptop.

This just happened today. The problem is that when we try to boot the laptop, it will show the WinXP splash screen, then as soon as windows is ready to start, you see a BSoD for a split second and the machine restarts itself.

This occures regardless of whether I'm starting in 'regular' or 'safe' mode.

Now I tried removing batteryA and that solved all the problems. (I say batteryA b/c she has two batteries.) So on that note, the laptop boots fine with batteryB.

Wth is going on here? It seems like batteryA is screwed, but I want to be sure that this isn't an indicator of something worse.

Thanks,
-Eric

Edit: the laptop is a little less than 1 yr old.
BatteryA is used most of the time; she estimates that batteryA is in the laptop 80-90% of the time.
