Boot order problem

I have an msi k8n neo2 motherboard.

My two hard drives are, a western digital raptor (sata), which is my boot drive, and an ata western digital 160gb drive, for my music and movie projects.

I am running xp with sp2.

My problem is, when my media drive is plugged in to the motherboard, the computer cannot find a bootable drive. In bios, the hard drive boot order has the raptor above the ata drive. I?ve tried using both sata controllers, and having the media drive plugged into both ide ports. The media drives jumper is set to slave.

Any help would be appreciated.

Not sure if this will help, but if the PATA western digital drive is on a channel by itself, it should be set to single, rather than master or slave, WD drives are picky like that.

Perhaps you have enabled SATA RAID on the board from the BIOS? Specifically check the SATA settings.

Yes, it turned out the ata drive was set to slave, and it needed to be set to master, for the sata drive to boot.
