Boot lag with WinME

I had to reinstall my OS to try out some overclocking on my new p3 700.
But I noticed that the machine will hang at boot just after it goes to the Me splash screen. It will sit at a black screen and do nothing for about 20seconds, then directly into windows with out a hitch.
Someone at work here says that ME is supposed to do that.
Im not really sure, just checking out a alternative to 98se for now.
Eventually go to 2k, but I want to wait on that.
Mabey till cable gets installed. Not too thrilled about 2k.
But if anyone has any input on that, post it up
😉

i don't have any lag, all the way to windows in like 20 secs (total time), compared to 1 min at least in win98se.

what is your hardware spec? i have heard people will some ata66/100 controller that hangs there to try to find a drive or something.

Nope no NIC checking for a IP.
I have a MSI 815e PRO with a p3 700 cb0 on it, mushkin rev 2 128mb.
There is a ata100 controller on it. i belive its IBM, thats what drives came with it.
Is there a easier way to tell? MB manual says nothing.
Now i noticed that this boot lag doesnt happen all the time. All day yesterday, i was up and running within 20 seconds.
Hrmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm weird.

Boot take less than SE, espacially now then I doubled memory to 192MB
I had similar problems when I tried to disconnect NIC from the network.
Also I saw the same with SE with 2 PCs on crosover cable, when one PC is off.
EDIT - I did not see previous post - you have no NIC- maybe USB device?
