Boot Issue

So,
I have the ASUS A8N32-SLI-Deluxe Bios 1009

Running a AMD Athlon 64 x2 4200+ (939)

Not overclocked

Dram Clocking: 400Mhz


During boot it goes as follows:
Press Del to run setup
Press f8 for BBS POPUP
1 AMD NorthBridge, Rev E4
Dual CHannel
Initializing USB controllers .. Done.
2048 OK (Installed MEmory Size: 2048)
USB Device(s): 1 Keyboard, 2 Mice, 1 Hub


And then it just stops... Ideas?

Forgot to mention, if you restart it enough times it boots into windows.

Is this a new build? Did it just start happening?
First, try unplugging one of the mice and the USB hub.
Next, run memtest86.
Next, let us know how you're doing. 🙂

I've run memtest 86, and its comes back clean (ran for 18 hours)

Tried unplugging one of the mice, only have a g7 left on it. Same result.

IT was a build I did a while ago, and I havn't had time to deal with it so I've just been rebooting it. Now that I have some time, I am trying to fix it. 😀

Sounds like a PSU since it requires re-starting. Try reducing the load on the PSU by reducing peripherals, i.e remove extra hdd, use a low end video card and disconnect all USB peripherals not required. Now boot again. If the system boots without a hitch, it could be a PSU. Try re-connecting the peripherals one at a time and powering up in between until you see the problem again. This means the PSU is max'ing out at this point. Remember, max load on PSU is achieved during boot up since starting current on all peripherals surge during this time. By re-starting, you are actually reducing the starting current since most of the peripherals are still coasting down, thus making the system to finally boot.

Thats an excellent Idea I will try when I get home,

Right now I have the 700Watt OCZ powersupply,

I'm only running a 4200+
2 Gigs of ram
7800gt
6200LE
1 HDD
2 optical drives

I wouldn't think that would be enough to overdraw. But I'm at a loss, so first thing I'll do when I get home 😀.

Keep the suggestions comming, otherwise I believe this board has a 3 year warentee, so I'll be calling the useless tech support at ASUS for a RMA.
