Boot is acting funny????

Since yesterday my computer has been acting funny when booting up. It gets to the screen where the little blue line goes across (sorry but I dont know how to properly explain it) and it hangs??????? I then power it down and it will restart with the error screen (not the blue screen of death) where it asks if I want to start on safe mode, normal ect.....I choose normal and then it will start up normally. I have scaned my system drive (150 WD Raptor) with WD HD Diagnostics tool. It passes????? I have no idea what it might be??? Any help or tips on trouble shooting my OS or HD woud greatly be appreciated.

ps - I have backed up my personal files
