Hi!

My first post here.

I was playing some UT2003 last night and all of the sudden out of the blue I get a BSOD (IRQ_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL) or something like that. No biggie, I've seen this a couple of times before so I just reboot the computer. The problem is that now I don't get any video on boot up, and I get 1 long and 3 short beeps (which I seem to remember being a video problem?). Now I'm sitting there thinking what might have gone wrong, and i realize that the computer still seem to be booting up. So I let it run for about a minute and type in my password, and whadda ya now, I hear the windows startup sound :) My best guess now is that my monitor is f****d up.

Any guesses on what might be the problem? Can windows even boot if the video card is dead?

You can eliminate your monitor being the problem simply by using the onscreen adjustment menu. If you can get the menu to come up then chances are it's good. A blown monitor will NOT cause beep codes during post.

It sounds kinda like you've blown the DAC or something 'close to the plug' on your video card. I'd say the main chip on your video card is working fine and this is why windows boots ok.

Check the basics: reseat your vid card, be sure the fan on it is spinning, look up that beep code so you're sure it's not something like a no-memory code.

I'm guessing your video card went bad.

Good Luck.
