i have an older computer than i needed to reinstall the OS. it has 1 physical drive in it that is partitioned into

C: (OS files)
D: (data files)

i booted from xp cd, deleted C:, did quick format C:, then installed on C:

everything installed fine, all the windows files are on C: but i noticed afterwards that 3 files were placed on D:
boot.ini
ntldr
NTDETECT.COM

what went wrong? what was i supposed to do to avoid this happening?
