typed in msconfig, BOOT.INI is no longer there. Typed in Bootcfg and a window pops up for a milisecond and then disapears. I want to uncheck the NOGUIBOOT.

Thanks

Did you type Bootcfg from the COMMAND prompt?
If you type it at the RUN command then it will flash a popup.

To edit boot.ini in Win2k\XP you can
right-click MyComputer on the desktop or go to Control Panel \ System

SYSTEM PROPERTIES \ ADVANCED \ STARTUP and RECOVERY \ SETTINGS \ SYSTEM STARTUP \ Edit

no it was in RUN (never used COMMAND before)...when i try it in COMMAND it sais error unable to reset file permission of BOOT.INI file...

im not comfortable with the COMMAND info but i typed in bootcfg /addsw/ng and got a syntax error

my goal is to disable the Windows XP Professional progress bar. and also when i type in msconfig in RUN to get my BOOT.INI tab back which is now gone. Now it just has General, SYSTEM.INI, WIN.INI, Services and Startup...

Are you logged in as an Admin? Check the permissions/ownership of the read-only, hidden, system file "c:\boot.ini".
