Boot failure from CD

a friends computer got a virus affecting its boot process so i deceided to reformat seeing as he has nothing important on hand.

I am attempting to reformat using the windows xp install disk.
The boot process is correct in BIOS although my system fails to boot from the CD.

i even tried to use a floppy boot disk, no luck.

any suggestions?

If you remove the HDD can you boot from CD or floppy? Have you tried another CD, maybe the one you have is not bootable. You can also format the HDD in another computer or better yet do a low level format if you don't need the partitions. This will wipe everything from the HDD and then try again. Good luck.

removing the HD still does not allow the computer to boot from the CD.

i have determined that the win xp copies i have are not bootable disks.

is it possible to place the HD in my personal computer as a secondary HD, format it, and install windows on it from there?

Buy an XP CD, and that will be bootable.
