boot disks are not working

Hi,

has anyone ever run into anything like this?
I can boot my os fine, however, if I try boot freedos through my floppy, or, for example, maxblast via the cd drive, it will just hang. I get the splash screen with maxblast, but then nothing.

Mainboard: ASROCK 939Dual-Sata2
CPU: Athlon 3000+ X2
Ram: 1GB OCZ PC3200 (2 x 512)
OS: WinXP SP2
Power supply: Antec 400W

I thought it may be a ram issue, so i tried using a different stick of ram, but that didn't work.

thanks for any help

I had recently updated my bios, so I thought it might be a bios problem so I flashed back to an earlier version, and reset the CMOS. the boot devices are in proper order.
still no dice. 🙁
