Boosting the volume of videos.

I need a program that will extract the audio track from a movie, increase the volume, and replace the movie's audio track with the new louder one.

I have a lot of avis from various places, and some of them have such low audio that even with my volume maxed out in windows, and speakers set to the max, I can barely hear anything at all.

Whats the best way to increase the volume of a movie?

Thanks for the reply, but I can't get TMPGEnc to deal with .avi files, and it does not seem able to deal with many audio formats either (a lot of video files I have are in AC3)

Does anyone know of a program that can rip the audio stream from just about any video file, regardless of format?

Have you tried Vidome? I don't recommend the current version. I think the previous version will do what you want. I had the same problem. On XP I went to accessories, entertainment, volume control, options and checked all the boxes. I think it was "line in" that was very low. I raised the level and bingo, it upped the sound like it's supposed to be.

Also, you can get a small amp from radio shack for $9.

Best,

Pretty sure you can apply a gain conversion filter to the audio stream in VirtualDub.

Then select 'Direct Stream Copy' for the video -> Save As, and away you go.

It may require you to export the audio as wav first, then select 'Audio -> WAV Audio...'.

Not sure though. Haven't really messed with this specifically.
