Boosting performance with VSYNC Enabled

I heard of some people mentioning Triple Buffering or something, but I would like to some people's experience on boosting FPS with an LCD (therefore, VSYNC is a must).

I noticed that when running FEAR or something, I either get only 30 FPS or 60 FPS (very rarely 60). Anyway I can get no tearing but faster frames as well?
