i have a LTR 52246S, and i've come to see that it is not upgradable for flashing, but i can't get a good speed out of it, it takes me around 2:30min to burn a 700 meg file when i put it on 48x or 52x

is there something i can do to make it go at the actual 48x or 52x?

Damnit, I hit reply too early :|

willboxer, two issues need to be addressed:

1. No burner will write at it's full speed throughout an entire disc.
2. Are you using high speed blanks?

yes i've always used 48x and 52x CD-R's

i've used Optimum, TDK, along many other brands for 48x/52x, i dont know if that's a good CD brand but i'm currently using Fuji's at 48x, but they burn just as fast....2 1/2 minutes

but i know ppl that burn at 30 seconds....

i started off burning at 10 min because for a long long time i didnt know i had it in PIO mode and finally my brother realized it and changed it to DMA which cut it down to 2.5 min and it was a really nice feeling but knowing some can burn in 30 seconds, makes me wonder if i can too :T

Those people are lying to you IMO willboxer.

I've used both Optimum, TDK & Fuji and I've been happy w/ the results, Fuji blanks are nicel, but a little too rich for me at my local stores.

Uh, 30 seconds?

I suck at math, and I can tell you that is not possible.

1X = 150kb/sec

52X = 7800kb/sec(7.8mb/sec)

700mb / 7.8mb = 90 seconds, or around 1.5 mintues.. However, you cannot burn at the full 52x for the entire length of the disk.

2.5 minutes is completely normal.

yeah fuji's are expensive but i always look for deals

price range is basically 10 cent per CD for me...give or take a bit. and with the deals going around at anandtech there's always deals out there before i use them all up.

but anyways, so you're sure they're exaggerating when they say they burn within 30 seconds?

see my brother's CD burner which is a 24x burns at the same speed as i, and mine is a 52 (of course he might've upgraded it, since 24x lite ons are upgradable)

but by doing the math, it looks like i'm only burning at 24.xx speed, which is not anywhere close to what this burner claims to be capable of (i did a speed test on nero, but funnily enough when it finished testing the speed and ran at 24.xx it burned in 3-4 min and not 2:30min which it would do if i didnt run the test speed thingy)

EDIT:
