Boost My Wi Fi

My friend and I would like to see if we can network our computers. His house is about 100m from my house. We basically want to build 2 cantennas, and point them at eachother.

I've done little research, I am slightly familiar with WiFi technology.
Some of what I know is from this site
http://www.turnpoint.net/wireless/cantennahowto.html

Here is one kit that I have found but its like $15
http://www.fab-corp.com/product.php?productid=1549&cat=264&page=1

What I am wondering is if anyone else has tried this lately, and has found the parts cheaper. All I need is the n-connector, and the pigtail (longer the better although I'm unsure of how much this would degrade signal strength).

Also for the pigtail, I get options for
- MC
- MMCX
- RPMMCX
- MCX
- RP-TNC
- RP-SMA
Can anyone tell me what these mean?

Thanks

my ISP uses "long range" 802.11b bridges up to at least half a mile, maybe further

i get my signal from a house about 2000 ft away using just a normal 6 inch antenna with a 200 mA bridge
