just got this in an email...

Beginning June 15, 2004, we will be raising the prices of all our subscription programs. Your plan, the Netflix 3-at-a-time program, will change from $19.95 per month to $21.99 per month.

oh well i guess, still a good deal, 3 at a time went up $2

Still no threat to video stores for me. Once on-demand movies are available (and I don't mean the pissant 8 movie selection through my satellite subscriber .I'm talking thousands at either a button or mouse click away), then blockbuster can start sweating.

I don't think its ever been a threat, or ever will become one, but its a very very convienent alternative, especially to those who don't live near a video store. (or have burned bridges with their currenty video store..heh). I think it has its niche and works it well.

And a sweaty Blockbuster would be a good thing.

as many movies as my wife goes through in a month, $30 would still be cheaper than going to the rental shop

When I was a kid, I rented a super nintendo game, and returned it on time. 2 weeks later we get a call saying we owe them money, cause I forgot the instructions. My mom said she would return them, but we still owed them like 4.16 in late fees. My mom filled a ziploc bag full of pennies totalling up to $4.16, cut up her membership card and put it in there, and an angry letter explaining her actions, and dropped it in the Night Return slot when they were closed.

Did not know there was one in Goldsboro...My movies get sent to and from Greensboro.

Still have not gotten an email from them. Anyone know what the other rates are going up to?

There is a Netflix dist. center in Kansas City, MO..about an hour away from me. Its weird. I will send in my 8 movies at the same time, and will get 3 back one day, then 3 the next day, and then 2 the next day.

Makes a difference of about $26.40 for me a year ($259.20 vs. $285.60).

How many movies do you guys usually rent?

Digital cable has that now. Time Warner (at least in Milwaukee) has hundrds of movies you can get for just a couple bucks just by usung the remote and pressing Go. I'm not sure on how much their availablity compares to BlockBuster or how quickly they get the movies, but I know they have a ton...

Same here. But i only have the 3 movie plan. They started out OK, but now it's a joke. I'm cancelling soon.

try out gamesnflix. $18.50 a month and you will soon be able to rent out games as well.

New company with only 2 distro centers and with 2-3 more coming by end of 2004.

hmm...no email of the like here. Also, no mention of it on their site. Did the email mention if the other plans are getting bumped up in price? Because if the 5-out plan isn't, I'd probably upgrade to that. I was already considering it, but if the difference is only $8 instead of $10, I'd probably go for it.

My wife and I joined Netflix not long after they first started. We wore ourselves out on DVDs to the point there really wasn't a lot left that we wanted to watch. We cancelled our subscription to NetFlix after about 9 months. I loved the service but we were starting to rent bad movies just because. So, it wasn't worth the cost anymore.

Now, here's the funny part. I'd like to get NetFlix again but my wife and I are at a point in our lives with work and our child that we rarely get to sit down and enjoy DVDs anymore. At least, non-kiddie DVDs. :) So again, it is not worth the cost for us to join.

I wish them the best though. They are a viable alternative to Blockbuster.

Netflix started out good. Now the service is substantially lacking.

Recently released first week movies (Kill Bill, Pirates of the Carribbean, etc) are sold-out in a day. You usually have to wait 2-3 weeks for availability.

This is a joke! All I have to do is drive 5 minutes to get a copy. Since I have to pay Blockbuster $4 to get a movie, what's the point of Netflix then. I'm double paying!

Netflix is mainly attractive to film geeks who can't get their anime or Japanese Kirosawa(?) films at their local B&M.
