Well what are you looking for? Hiking/etc there will be plenty of that to do in the area, but will need to drive some to get to nice places.

Well to be honest theres not a ton of stuff to do while there. A lot of people live out of the city and just kind of do their own thing. Or drive somewhere to do something.

I mean, you could walk around mainstreet if you were really bored but besides the Mass General Store theres not much there.

If I knew more about what you'd be interested in I might can help more. I know the area pretty well.

Bars however I don't know much about, I'm sure they are around but I have only a vague idea of where they might be. Main problem being the restrictive alcohol laws in that county.

The thing about Boone is that it's not really much of a 'touristy' town, so things like that to attract people in simply aren't there. However it serves as one of the larger hubs for many other activities in the area. For example in the winter its the biggest city anywhere near the slopes, in the summer people from Florida come to live in their summer homes, and the rest of the year college is in session.

Tweetsie Railroad is a cute, old-time theme park. Not real big, but not too bad.

Also, the Daniel Boone Inn has awesome country cooking...but be prepared to wait in a LONG line.

you could make a quick trip out to Blowing Rock or go drive along the Blue Ridge Pkwy. Lots of hiking to do in the area and there are some nature parks too. Grandfather Mountain isn't too far away either. I  NC Mountains! So much better than Durham where I live. Although it's not that bad either, at least not as bad as people say it is.

Never been. I had a friend that went to App State and I visited him a couple of times. DBI hit the spot after a not-so-sober night a few times.
