Boombox w/USB Jumpdrive support

How hard is it to make a boombox/portable radio with a USB port on it, so you can plug-in a jumpdrive or something and play MP3s off it. I've found a few with USB links to a PC, so you can stream MP3s to them, but what if I want to take it somewhere, and not have to deal with audio cables?

Someone should build one of these, so I can buy it 😛

Why not? Wouldn't it be cool to be able to plug a jumpdrive right into your radio and listen to music off it? I've got a 1GB jumpdrive that I've only half filled with data, I could put music on it too and use it to listen to music at work. But as is I can't do that, if I had a boombox I could plug it into then I could?

Because it's easier to read the line out on every other portable music device?

I've seen them, they do exist, just a little pricey.

You sure you're not thinking about the ones that hook to your PC and stream music off it?

just get a portable mp3 player.

And do WHAT with it? Run cables from it to a boombox, which requires one with aux inputs? Then that's two things to carry, and the MP3 player will run on batteries, unless I bring a second power adapter for it, all very complicated. The jumpdrive could be powered off the boombox USB port, so that's just one power supply/cord, and only one thing to carry around. Much more simple, and anybody could plug their jumpdrive into it, as long as it uses standard file systems.

i don't see why you'd want to carry around a giant boombox when you could carry around a tiny mp3 player.

You'd probably spend a lot more for what you want, and end up with crappy sound from 2" speakers. Buy an old 10 gig iPod and attach it to an 80s boombox with one of those car mounts. Problem solved, and you'll have woofers and tweeters and a fly looking stereo. The batteries should last for hours anyway.

That's a wholesale store, in the Netherlands 😛...but that is the kind of thing I'm talking about.

And at work I'm on machinery a lot, and have to be able to hear other things, so I can't have headphones on. We can listen to radios though, so it'd have to be a boombox.

Never said they didn't, just that I couldn't find em. I figure that Sandisk can make a little tiny $40 dock for their jumpdrives that will read MP3s off them and output them to a headphone jack, how hard would it be to incorporate that same circuitry into a boombox? Shouldn't be that hard, I'm just surprised there haven't been more coming out with it included?

Or you could just get the mp3 cd player boomboxes?

And then have to reburn CDs all the time, be limited to 650MB rather than my 1GB, and others at work that I know have jumpdrives and use them to transport music wouldn't be able to just plug them in.
