so's....im sound deadening my trunk today..and i know i need to adjust my amp...so i turn my system on..only to hear one of my subs making this horrid sound every time low bass hit hard....arrrrrggggggggggggggggg it pissed me off..i go to stereo shop and yup...they say my sub is definitely going bye bye....so's i go back after work...and have the guy take both subs out...he's going to plug the other one into a wall socket and fry it and send both back to MTX under warranty...hehe...since the subs are discontinued, i get a pair of THIS year's model subs! for free! w00t!! the subs are worth $150 each....so that's $300 of subs for no cost to me....the stereo shop i bought them from is mailing them for me and everything!

Which MTX subs? I have heard the MTX 6000 and I was impressed with the balance of SPL and SQ, even though they are more of a SPL speaker.

I had a MTX sub in my old car. The cone separated. Brand new one for me! MTX is a great company though.

millenium...yup..mtx is a good company.....they'll usually just give you a brand new product instead of fixing, as it costs more to fix a product than just to send a brand new one......the sub that was fux0red has no chance of being fixed...and once he plugs the other one into the wall socket...well..you get the picture :)

You had the 5000's! Too bad... I have heard from many car audio forums that the 5000's were better than the 6000's... I have never heard em though. I'm sure you will be happy with the 6000's though.

What do you have powering them?

mucman: i think that's bull, cuz i've heard the 6000's in a sealed box like i have..'cept it was an enclosure with no seperation between the subs.....and they sounded much better than the 5000's....and my box has seperate enclosures, and so they will pound..

i have an MTX rt2400x (last years model) powering the subs.....birthsheet spec'ed 312w x 2 @ 2-ohm stereo, and i run them at 4-ohm mono, so its about 624w + since my alternator keeps the amp usually at 13.8v....hehe...

genocide, they're 10 months old, and i was putting close to 65w more than they should have been getting rms....he showed me the one that was fux0red....those two wires that go into the cone, on had completely torn apart...the wires were unwound and everything.....i was like daaaamn....the second sub was fine, but was on its way to doing the same thing....so overpowering them probably caused the cone to move too far and tore it...

Xero, like I said; I have never heard the 5000's. It just seems like quite a few people on car audio forums treasure their 5000's.

Still... anything is better than my POS MTX RT1040 getting 70W :(. I am looking into some Nakamichi 10's but I won't be able to afford them till summer time.
