Bookshelf Speaker Selection

I'm about to pull the trigger on some Swan M200's from NewEgg ($199) for my bedroom, thinking they offer about the best sound for their price point. However, X-LS's can be had for $219 from AV123. Would it be worth it to go with the X-LS's and a Gainclone/SI T-amp?

They both are pretty decent entry level speakers. If you can afford it, why not buy both and send back the loser? This way you know for sure you got the best for your money!

With that said, over the past few months, I haven't heard much of swan. They seemed to die down a bit. Id probably go with the X-ls speakers first.

Are you planning to run them as NFM? or like normal speakers?

I had the X-LS with the Super T-Amp and it was a great combo. Those XLS can really slam for a bookshelf speaker. The only problem they pose is that of speaker placement. With rear ports it can be a nightmare. For that reason, if you're into Swan speakers look into the faux black cherry bookshelf speaks newegg stocks. With the front port on those speaks you may have a much easier time. Also look at the 9.1 Wharfedale Diamonds. Those speaks have a solid value as well (and are front ported)

I actually hadn't considered port placement, that's a good suggestion. I was actually planning on wall mounting them if possible, the room isn't very large. I'd say probably 12x15... Isn't the Super T-Amp just the SI T-amp with a wall wart?

Yeah the Super T just has a nicer enclosure and banana plugs. I wanted a cleaner looking presentation.


As far as wall mounting, then i'd definitely look into the wharfedale's. They give you a great sound and look quite spiffy if I do say so myself. I love the cabinet shape.

Yeah, in that case the X-LS probably wouldn't be a good way to go.
