Going next summer on a 3 day boat (the Royal Polaris out of San Diego). A friend of mine went on this boat recently and caught 24 fish (Dorado, Yellowtail and Yellowfin Tuna). There are 4 of us going on this boat next summer.

Now I need to buy more fishing gear... :ninja:

My friend's most recent haul.

There's some GOOD eating right there...

It is fantastic. This summer has been a record breaking summer for off-shore fishing in Southern California and Mexico.

I doubt next summer will be as good but we're booking early because the boats this summer were filling up weeks even months in advance.

I have a piece of yellowfin tuna thawing in the fridge at home right now that we're having for dinner tonight but that is the last of the fish I caught in August. My friend is going to give me some of his fish from his latest trip. He will net about 40lbs of fish from that haul.

I have two setups right now (single speed reels with 30 & 40# test) but need a good 2 speed reel with heavy line in case we get into the larger tuna. They recommend 4 rigs per angler, I think that would be the minimum I would want to bring. You don't want to be messing around changing jigs/hooks when the fish are in a frenzy so you need multiple rigs. I would also like a lighter casting rig with 20# test.

I completely agree on the poles. If affordable, I'd even consider 6. Nothing like being out on the water with a broken pole or a real that suddenly decided to screw up. It's saved my butt plenty of times having more than enough gear. And, it's helped save the day for other people fishing with me when I'm able to say, "here, fix yours later. This pole is already rigged."
