I need a book on how to use Windows XP for my dad. It must go over the very basic things, like what folders are, how they work, and what you can do with them, how to copy, rename, and move files - all the very basic stuff.

I almost need some kind of schooling book as I'd like the book to have tasks for the reader to complete. i believe my dad is more of a hands on learner so this is essential.

I know a book that will teach you everything you need to know, brother. It's called The Bible. Follow the love of our lord and savior Jesus Christ and you shall be saved.

My dad is 60 now, and never learned to use a computer. I have tried to teach him many times over the years, but all he can do is remember the steps to accomplish a specific task and replay them, and he can't even do that if the computing environment is changed in any way.

I think he is simply incapable of grasping the concepts we take for granted, like that an icon on the screen corresponds to a function to be performed, or that data is distinct from programs. When I try to explain these things his eyes just glaze over.

It's possible people of that age just do not have the right kind of brain to ever learn this stuff.

My dad never had that problem. Our first computer at home was an Apple II. We couldn't get near the thing. Now my Mom is a different story.

How about the "Dummy" books?
