I need a book for an electrical engineering course. The 7th edition is about 60 bucks cheaper than the 8th edition. Am I really missing out here on any new concepts by taking the 7th? The only thing I see would be HW problems assigned from the 8th edition, and for that I can go to the library and photocopy the problems I need, or just write them down.

I could try and be funny and suggest that electricity was discovered after the 7th edition.

but I wont.

7th edition was made in 2004, and the 8th came out this year. Does this information provide more insight, or will the jokes keep coming? :p

You'll have to talk to your professor. Sometimes they make drastic changes, but more often than not, they word a few questions differently, slap a new cover on, call it a new edition, and rape students up the butt.

Sometimes they change the order of sections, but yeah, it's just a scam and nothing more.

I would buy an older version, go to the library, and compare to see if there's any difference. It's stupid to pay $150+ for a book when the previous edition sells for $20 and is just about the same.

hah, they're glad to get anything for the books at all, it's like getting money back from taxes.

I used to work in a school environment so I can tell you the reason behind this. Schools are required to have the latest edition of a book they are teaching from be it a better or worse book. Publishing houses release new editions because they know this and it sells more books. So if you just want to learn, get the old edition because its likely little has changed. However if you need to do certain problems in the book, make sure you get the current version
