Nursing mothers could soon not have to feel embarrassed about whipping it out in public. Behold, The Milk Truck. Part performance art, part public service, the truck hopes to offer a sanctuary for breastfeeding mothers, when they are made to feel uncomfortable in public places.

Mom simply summons The Milk Truck via smartphone to her location, and she can feed her baby under the cover of the converted ice cream truck.

And besides offering a comfortable setting for a woman simply trying to feed her child, the truck sends a message to other establishments. Make a nursing mom feel unwelcome, and you get a truck with a big boob on it parked out front.

hmm i didn't know breastfeeding moms were getting kicked out. I usually just see them whip it out and nobody cares...

hmm i didn't know breastfeeding moms were getting kicked out. I usually just see them whip it out and nobody cares...

I know in Virginia it was illegal for any establishment to kick out a breastfeeding mom or demand she stop. Not sure how it works in other states.

When we had our first child, the hospital actually gave you a small card with the law written out on it. I guess it must be a problem.

My wife is breastfeeding, and we are from Pittsburgh (where this Milk Truck is proposed) and she was telling me about this thing last week. She wants to donate to the project. Note that it doesn't actually exist yet, it's a kickstarter project, and if they get enough donations, then they'll actually go ahead with it. At least that's what it seems. She hasn't had any issues breastfeeding in public though, so not sure there is a specific need for it.
