It's such a nice feeling cutting something up and knowing it's got a zero balance.

So all I've got left is one Visa . . . keep it or cancel it? The limit is pathetic. I have used my debit card more than my credit card simply because I have an awful credit rating due to my fricking college . . .

First, they did not apply my financial aid to my tuition. As such, financial aid was withdrawn.

They then billed me for the tuition (logically).

I called and said, hey, what's the deal? What about my loan? Their answer was, sorry, we screwed up. We need the money in full. At that moment I didn't have $3,000 bucks, and didn't have a way of getting it. By this time, the semester was 3/4 over. "Can I make payments?" Nope, the tuition was late, they need it all up front.

I kept trying to negotiate with them, but they ended up taking me to court. Judge said, can you pay all of it? "No, but I can make payments." OK, says the judge, then they set up a payment schedule.

It's paid off, but it still shows up on my credit report as a judgement against me. It's the only negative on my credit report, and I have been unable to get a cell phone, limit increases on my credit cards, etc. So I decided I would just pay them off and cancel them and wait until the judgement drops off of my history. Judgements stay on your history for 7 years I think.

damn schools.. if the student didnt qualify for fiancial aid you should know in the beginning not in the end.

keep some credit cards.. sure that -ve will be there.. but its a good idea in case of emergencies.

Cut your limit on the Visa to something you can easily pay off, like 1K, and keep it @ a 0 balance, that way if you need say an airline ticket for a funeral, etc, you can handle it...

keep your last card, use it to charge things but then pay them off immediately. in other words, don't charge anything you can't pay off the same month. this will do two things for you: one give you an active credit card that you will definately need to have at some point in the future and two, improve your credit rating by having made charges but also having paid them off.
