Without the age of your kids I'm not sure if we're talking learning the alphabet with Sesame Street or how to properly treat a street walker in GTA.

Out of curiosity, what is the official lesson plan for how to "properly treat a street walker in GTA"? I missed that part of my education growing up. :p

I will say that as a kid, I really enjoyed playing Civ2 when it came out on top of learning quite immensely from reading the game's civ-pedia.

I wish I had Europa Universalis back when I took geography.

No joke. i know quite a bit about the world now thanks to that series. its fun spouting off random obsucre regions that existed in the 1400-1700 date range. Even impressed a Russian guy i worked with when i could converse about the history and origins of Muskovy.

my kids really enjoy the Jumpstart Phil games. the local library has a great setup. their PCs came from a company (the name escapes me currently) and it has a front end that runs on top of windows loaded with all kinds of kids educational games. i looked it up one time and you had to contact them for pricing and such, so im sure its some stupid crazy price. but pretty cool none the less.

When I was a kid my favorite game was doom. Taught me a lot about math and reading, because I had to learn to read messages like "you need a red key to open the door" and always had to keep track of health and ammo.

Civ 1 taught me that nuclear bombs, far from starting Nuclear Winter, will actually advance global warming, and that settlers (including the ones that I've had since 4000 BC, in loincloths) can clean up nuclear fallout after a few years of toil.

Put me in the group of "learned history by reading the Civilipedia". Well, that and the "history" section of the help menu from Caesar II.
