bonus question

pontifex

Lifer
I'm supposed to be getting a raise and a $2000 bonus.
I was told this last monday or tuesday.
payday rolls around on thursday and i see my pay has been adjusted for the raise, but nothing about the bonus, no extra check, nothing.

is it common for companies to hold on to a large bonus like that for a little bit before they give it out or something?

cliffs:
why didn't i get my bonus check yet?

the 2 most obvious choices are:

1- you aren't really going to get it
2- you'll get it soon(er or later)

good luck!

if i'm not really going to get itm why would they tell me i'm getting one?

Because Catbert works at your company?

Talk to HR / your office manager and see when / if the bonus is scheduled to be paid, if not talk to the people who said you'd be getting it.

Go ask your payroll people, how the hell should we know?

if you had bothered to read my post, you would see that i'm asking if its common for companies to wait a little before giving it out.

Bonus handling varies from company to company. Some bonuses are paid on specific dates, like end-of-month, just before the end of the fiscal year, just after it, or during santa-time.

Like we said above, go ask. Nothing bad will happen, the worst you'll hear is that they have no paperwork yet. Which might not mean anything other than the bonus-givers being busy.

When we issue bonuses, we always separate them from regular payroll by a few days. The same payroll staff do both and to help simplify things they usually run the bonus cheques a day or two after a regular payroll.
