Bonnaroo 2015 - WTF

This lineup just seems like "who do hipsters like these days" and some clipart poster. Some strange choices, for sure.

It's kind of an odd amalgamation considering I always thought of Bonnaroo as kind of a hippie/phish/grateful dead kind of event.

But hell yeah I'd go see Freddie Gibbs & Madlib and Run the Jewelz.

Those are all pretty decent acts. I don't know about the rest of them. These festivals always have a number of up and coming bands that play for nothing just to get exposure. Bonnaroo is a number of stages with quite a few shows going constantly for days, so it takes a lot of no-names to fill the slots.

What's amazing though is many bands you've never heard of could be some of the best shows. When you consider that some have been touring for years, singing music that big labels don't want... Some things are hard to market to the masses, but are amazing when played on a small stage. I'm fortunate to see a lot of shows like that locally.

I tend to agree with the OP and like a lot of the same music as him, from what I gather on this forum at least. But yeah, the lineup is not that bad. Could definitely stay busy there. Slayer is such a weird addition to the lineup though...I can't imagine slayer fans liking almost any of the other bands on the list...and their death metal all black garb will likely look out of place in a festival like this.

Are just about all of those bands indie/hipster bands that almost no one has heard of? I only recognize a few of the names. I wouldn't mind seeing Deadmau5 but that's about it from that list.

If anything I've heard is to be believed, they probably spent 95% of the artist budget on DeadMau5 and had to scrape together a bunch of people willing for any work. I mean, Slayer isn't even Slayer anymore. Glad I got to see them before they dropped to 4/5ths of Slayer.

Billy Joel as the headliner is a really weird choice, I agree.

Who the f*** would camp out to see Billy freaking Joel. He's a theater act for baby boomers, not a festival headliner.

it's a 4 day festival with 5-10 stages. They barely got enough headlining talent for a 2 day festival with 3 stages.

Besides originally being more of a hippie/alt country themed event, I thought the whole point of bonnarroo was to break/expose new artists? Im more disappointed about Billy Joel being on the bill than the number of lesser known "hipster" bands.

Some of my fave acts on that bill have already been mentioned. Let me put in a vote for Hurray For The Riff Raff (aka Alynda Lee Segara) Maybe not everyone's style/taste, but that little lady can sing! Just discovered her a year ago... been enjoying her stuff since. She also does some great covers of classics.
