Actually it's very quiet. There is a half inch thick sheet of foam rubber that floats on the water surface. This increases the surface area for better evaporation and dampens the noise.

You can find my system specs here. Unfortunately my my current 1333 is a dog. I may pick up a new one at the show this weekend. Idle temps are at or 1C below ambient. Full load temps are 13C to 14C higher.

As for how it works, it is an evaporative cooling tower. The shower head in the top lets water free fall down the pipe into the reservoir. The water goes through a phase change, some of it evaporates and cools what's left. The fans increase the evaporation rate. Steve Pignato did a prize winning article on this for Overclockers.com. Their Site is down right now or I would link to it. When it's back up, go to the Watercooling section and read the article titled "Nuclear Cooling Tower".

MrThompson...nice setup on the bong cooling...
So what are you gonna do about those AXIA's...u gonna sell them? Wait for Palo's? Get an AYHJA?
I hope now the thingy with the enermax psu stuff is clear and done with...i think if you got a better chip...you won't too much trouble OCing...

bong coolers look sweet.

Does anyone have a link to a guide on how to make one?
also how much does a simple bong cooler cost to make?

Overclockers is back up. Here is the link. You will find theory and instructions there. I have seen folks build a cooling tower for under $20. With the valves, couplings and Igloo cooler I have about $100 in mine but these items are not absolutely necessary.

heffe734 - Probably a AYHJA. I will also try my favorite 400 watt PSU before the show. I am going to need a better chip. I heard from Danger Den today and the replacement 172 watt pelts are on the way.

Nice cooler, I really like the Igloo for water storage. You have a autofill from a waterline yet.......:D (Only half joking, they sell taps into waterlines and you could use a swamp coolers fill value and float. How much water do you use in a day, I was curious.)

I have wanted to build one of those for some time, but I need a pump capable of 5 feet of lift and I just don't have it yet. What pump are you using? The Eheim?

ok, so when i first saw the pics, i thought, woah... watercooled computer connected to your bong? that's unique!!! i figured you could prob. keep the bong water cool that way though, i guess. but then i was like, where do you put the weed, man??? then i read the o/c article... and yea i guess i'm kinda stupid.

Danner Mag 7 pump. 700 GPH at no head. They are about $50. Actual flow rate is 36 GPH. As you can see the 3/8 tubing, bong height and Maze 2 block really cut the flow rate.

I filter the water with a silver impregnated ceramic and carbon filter prior to putting it in the cooler. This keeps the minerals and any biologicals from contaminating the cooling system. This is the same filter we use for drinking water. An automatic fill system would require that I purchase an expensive inline filter.

Sorry I forgot the water use. A couple gallons a day without pelts. With the dual 172 watt pelt Maze 2.2 it looses a quart an hour!

lmao at a quart an hour lol also wow lets se some pics of that insulation mrThompson dual 172 watt plets ekkk just thinking of the moisture also what are temps withat -25 under load hehe, and one more thing 172 watt pelts are always 50mm(well all that i have seen and i have looked for 40mm but didnt find noone) and the maze 2.2 only supports 2x40mm or 1 x50mm did you mod it or what

My God, that entire rig is a monster! Easily the most complicated, tubed, wired, hookedup, plugged in system I've ever seen. Jeez, a Bong Cooler! I'd never even heard of such a thing.

I looked for, but couldn't find overclocking specs. With a 1.33GHz TBird and that setup I'd imagine you hit about what? 1.6 - 1.7 GHz?

That freakin' cooler is totally amazing...what a lot of work! I applaud you though; you had to do; plumbing, electrical and mechanical work to get it all together. To think; the AOL users of the world think that "computers" is nothing more than typing on a keyboard! How wrong they are!

Hello, I'm Mr. Thompson...Bioelectricalnucleophysiscist by day, computer junkie by night! LMAO!

You're incredible, Sir. That's one amazing piece of work. Good luck with your Nitrogen-powered superconducting cooler. ;)

The 172 watt pelts are 40 mm. Danger Den has them. I did not get the best results with the 172 watt pelts. The pelts are suspect. Nothing under -5C, that's why new pelts are one the way. I also have a pair of 120 watt pelts coming to play with. There is a pic of the block installed on the motherboard in this thread. Here is a pic of the block with pelts and insulation.

MichaelD - Thanks for the kind words. I am not the only person running a bong cooler. There are quite a few of them in use. Unfortunately my 1333 Bird is not very peppy anymore. With strait water it's stable at 1379 MHz. I burned it in with Primes torture test at 1575 air cooled and a couple of weeks later it started to slip. This has to be the worst case of electromigration I have ever heard of. I may pick up a fresh chip this weekend.

you say the 3/8 tubing restricts... i'm considering a bong cooled setup, should i get the maze-2 w/ 1/2" fittings?
