This was one of the best fights I have ever seen. These 2 boxers went almost non-stop through 12 rounds.
Both were very clean, ethical fighters. No funny business, no cheap shots, no hitting between breaks.
Bones Adams was amazing to watch. He had better form than I usually see out of many of the top ranked boxers. He uses his whole upper body when delivering his punches.
He was very professional in his tactics, as he went for hard body shots through most of the first half of the fight.
Ayala was tough starting out, buckling Adams in the second round with a nice left.
Ayala has a very tough chin, as he took many hard hits from Adams and never showed wobbly legs or disorientation.
He slowed in the second half of the fight, as I'm sure Adams' body shots took their toll. But he continued to box, and keep Adams on the move.
I felt that Adams had this fight clearly won, in punch numbers, and effectiveness.
But Ayala was given the win on a split decision.
The judging system needs to be looked at.
Fans pay big money for these fights, and deserve to be rewarded with the right outcome.
Fighters like these 2 guys, are dedicated and committed to achieve.
It was a blast to BOTH of them.
You could see in Ayala's responses afterwards that he knew he it was a poor decision.
From the level of boxing that I witnessed between these 2 fighters, I would assume that they eat, breathe, and live to be the best.
They should be respected with appropriate measure.
This affects peoples' lives when incompetence is played out like this.
It's not tolerated in other forms of business, and it shouldn't be in this arena, as well.
Back to my view of this fight. I look back to Lewis vs. Rachman(sp?). Lewis went into that fight unprepared, cocky, and disrespectful towards the belt. I was happy to see him get dropped on his sorry ass.
Then I watch these 2 young up-and-comers, with little recognition, who show what fighting should be all about. They showed that they had trained hard, as they showed little fatigue through 12 rounds of hard pounding boxing. They were all business, showed proper respect for each other with no intentional punches below the belt, or head butting.
Roy Jones, Jr. could learn a lot from this fight, as he has rested on his laurels for the last few years, and not shown that he is really committed to the sport of boxing.
Shane Mosely should get recognition for his performance. Most people have never heard of him, yet I would consider him to be the number one pound for pound boxer out there. Others argue for Trinidad, and he deserves the consideration. But Mosely has the aggression in the ring that seems to be the exception in the veterans these days.
