no way they can elect bonds into the hall of fame if this is true
Why not?
He disgraced the game of baseball; but not only that, made a mockery of the sport by breaking records while on the juice.
Whatever.
Obviously, Bonds is not the only one who has gone down this path. He is just a lightning rod for it because of what he was able to achieve.
If Bonds is not that great of a player, then why isn't every person who is on steroids (or whatever) able to have the type of sucess that he has?
Lots of players have cheated and still retained their honors / statistics / etc. Look at Gaylord Perry. He flat-out told everyone that he doctored the baseball when he was pitching and he is in the Hall of Fame.
Good luck getting his records or awards stripped. The truth is, he is competing directly against other players that are juiced up as well. MLB is rife with players who were on steroids, etc. Until this year, there were no consequences for being on steroids. By the rules of MLB, he wasn't do anything wrong.
First off, MANY players who were good have been elevated to GREAT by using steroids, not just Bonds. Caminiti and Giambi won MVPs b/c of it, and look at them now? One's dead and the other looks like a twig b/c he's so scared of being caught with the roids again which would definitely void his bloated contract with the Yanks. Bonds was already going to get into the Hall, but the roids elevated him from great to GODLIKE. So the argument isn't whether Barry was great, it's about roids elevating a player's status from good to great, or great to godlike.
Gaylord Perry admitting to a spitball is a good comparison to Barry on roids? Please! Perry won 2 Cy Young awards and had over 300 wins, he didn't break Cy Young's win record or win a ridiculous 7 Cy Youngs like Roger Clemens. In fact, he never once, in his 22 year career, finished first in strikeouts or ERA! Yet he is
5th on the all time list for
innings pitched behind names like Cy Young, Walter Johnson, and Nolan Ryan. He was extremely durable, which = many wins. The only reason he's in the HOF is because of his 300 wins (and wins is more of a team function, not individual attributes like ERA and strikeouts), a little luck, and durability (Don Sutton is a good comparison). Don't get it confused with Bonds who would have been compared to all time greats like Ruth and Ted Williams.
I can't wait until Bonds gets nailed with perjury next spring. To sit there and lie in FEDERAL COURT about not doing drugs like Winstrol and HGH, when the Feds have HARD EVIDENCE that he received them in 2000/2001, is ridiculous. To say that "I thought it was flaxseed oil and arthritis cream" is ridiculous. This was the man who told Sheffield that he needed a blood sample so he could get Sheff the right "vitamins to match" his "blood type". Now I don't know about you, but most normal vitamins work the same for normal human beings! The only "vitamin" that will dramatically improve a person's performance is an
anabolic steroid. Athletes are fine tuned machines, they know what they put in their bodies down to the last kilocalorie. For Bonds to plead ignorance is absolutely absurd, any record past 2000 should be asterisked that they were obtained using anabolic steroids. It's a complete disgrace to the game, and a disservice to the players who rightfully owned these old records that have been broken, ones that were earned when baseball was the national pastime and NOT a money driven, roided up monstrosity that is today's product. I envy my parents and grandparents.
