I know that good times for stocks are supposed to be bad times for bonds & vice versa, but how strong is this correlation exactly?

Does it apply to major market crashes/depressions? How did bonds do in 1929-1930?

the record low interest rates that we are currently experiencing may alter this type of cycle in some way, some smarter dude may know

with bond rates so low, they aren't necessarily as attractive as they might be in a down stock market when interest rates are higher

Bonds are up in the past few days because stocks are down. No amount of good news about the economy can counter the concerns that the Fed will raise rates in the near future or that M2 is currently in the negative.
