BOINC-wide TeAm Profile

Initially, I thought the BOINC-wide team management could be a natural extension to the DC Moderators' duties. However, after corresponding with Dennis and Greg, I realized that this should be handled by a committee of team members to avoid any situations where there might be a conflict of interest.

Here is what we need:

1) A committee of trusted team members
2) A name for this committee
3) A committee email address that will be around for a while
4) The co-operation of the existing founders to transfer the founder positions over to the committee.

Here are some of the committee's duties:

1) Create a mutually acceptable password
2) Create a forum member account using the committee name and password.
3) Create a team profile on BOINC using the committee name and password.
4) Assimilate the existing founder positions on all of the projects.
5) Transfer the ownership of the DC Welcome thread to the committee for updating.
6) Transfer the ownership of the Comprehensive BOINC Project List thread to the committee for updating.
7) The committee will post information or polls about team-wide topics.

Here are some possibilities for the committee's name:

TeAm Managers
TeAm Factotums
TeAm AnandTech Committee or TAC
TeAm AnandTech Committee Members or TACM

And Just For Grins:

The Committee to Oversee the TeAm AnandTech Distributed Computing Profile on BOINC
The Usual Suspects*
The Usual Gang of Idiots**
The Leaders of the Pack***

* From the movie Casa Blanca
** From Mad Magazine
*** From the song Leader of the Pack

I suggest we select three trusted members to seed the committee and they can select a few more.

One final note: It is acceptable if a founder does not wish to give up his position. The BOINC team update process will not replace team profiles. However, the founder should be encouraged to place his email address and password with the committee for possible future access.

So. What does everybody think?

The only thought I have at the moment is that the password that is chosen better be some kind of really intensive "secure" password or phrase not easily typed or known since I would think the BOINC-wide accounts would get a good deal of attention from hackers and the like for the extensive reach that they could have over many projects stats and such.

Seems a little like the "Administrator" account in an AD structure. Keep it protected and secure. ;)

I think that's a great idea!!
  • If the BOINC project thread is supposed to belong to the committee, can Smoke as TA administrator do that? If yes, we should give credit to Fardringle for starting it.
  • If something is posted using the new TeAm Manager account, each member should "sign" the post with his name to avoid confusion about who posted what.
  • I support the "TeAm AnandTech Committee or TAC" name.
  • My choices for the committee are: Petrusbroder, Rudy Toody and Smoke
  • I'd strongly urge people to give up their team ownership, to make this a fruitful and worthy task!
Chris :)

Thanks, Tom. I was going to do that for the original post, but I ran out of gas.:)

My choices would be Fardringle, TAandy, petrusbroder, Philippart, and Smoke*.

We need the nominees to let us know if they are available and willing.

* He might have to recuse himself if a situation occurs where his moderator duties have the priority.

I also prefer TAC

EDIT2: On second thought, the Welcome thread should remain with the moderators because it is about the forum. TAC should create a similar one for existing crunchers and link to it through the new profile.

I prefer TAC too, we could organize a poll here on Anandtech.com to make committee elections ;)

Good idea! Why don't you organize it, because I will be gone until Sunday.

My comps will still crunch SETI while I'm gone.

 I don't even remember founding our team for WEP-M+2 Project!

EDIT:
We need the nominees to let us know if they are available and willing.

Thx for the trust Tom, but I'm looking at a year full of my final university exams and two moves around the country, so I'd rather not like to be on the committee.

Sorry for being late with my answer, TeAm Mates.
As some may have seen, I have had no internet connection since our last great thunderstorm 5 days ago: no production, no neffing, no answers.
It was a problem outside my control...

I find the proposed rules and like the idea for a poll.

Thanks, TeAm mates, for nominating to the committee.
I would be honored to accept if the TeAm mates so choose.
I'll do my best, with some exceptions caused by the entity called Real Life ... ;)

So: if you find my service acceptable, then I'll contribute.

My 2 cents.

I like the idea and also vote for TAC. We may run out of letters: TA, TAS and TAC, but it is easily recognisable as part of TA.
