BOINC Upgrade Woes: New Projects the solution?

I don't Upgrade BOINC very often, certainly not as often as new Versions come out, but after a recent Hardware Upgrade and subsequent Compute Errors with one of my Projects I decided it was time for a new Version.

So I download the latest Version and do something I'm 90% sure I have done before. That is, Install the New Version over top the Old Version and as I recall when starting the New Version, not only did it know all the Projects I was involved with, but it loaded up my previous WUs and continued on without a hiccup. No fuss, no muss...except this time.

The first thing I noticed with the latest version is that it loads up you typical Setup system, giving various Options. Then there was the head scratcher, selecting Directories. Program directory, fine that's normal, but Data? WTF is a Data directory?(somewhat rhetorical...there wasn't one in previous BOINC versions) That was the first sign of trouble.

When it asked me to Login to existing Account on Projects I have been doing for years, I was screwed. E-mail address and PW for an Account I made Years ago, Logged in Once, then went on with Life? I'd try the "Forgot Password" Option, but some ISP that no longer exists would probably receive the E-mail.

Isn't this Info kept Locally? Isn't there a File that contains all my Account and Project Info that I can simply Drag/Drop or point BOINC towards?

If not, 3 more BOINC Projects will join the previous 2 I have abandoned for reasons(1, SETI was Pre-BOINC, but a similar Lost Account Info) of annoyance. Main annoyance being that I just don't want to start from zero.

This is just a weak Rant, as I'll likely not care about this by tomorrow and will go on with Life with New Projects unless I remember something in the meantime.

I don't see anything in the BOINC directories; but if you use Firefox, maybe the passwords are stored there, from when you logged onto the sites?

OMG dude, you are a genius! Not for the Password suggestion, as those were lost due to an OS/New Partition being part of the Upgrade. You are a genius for resetting my thinking to other methods of tackling the problem.

A quick examination of the new Directory structure and placement of Files, some Cut/Pastes of Files, and now I'm Logged into all Projects! My unfinished WUs are not being used, but I can live with that.

Thanks for the reply. 🙂

Yea some versions back they decided to split the dir's (they were both always there), god knows why, seems totally pointless if you ask me 🙄.
Anyway I just change the path of the data one & put it within the main dir.
Looks like you found out anyway 🙂.

Btw seeing as you're logged in now can't you change your set email & password? Would be a good idea to do it now if you can access it .
