BOINC Seti Beta News

If the first roll out the SETI@home BOINC Clients effected, this will
pass astropulses in the context of the beta of project. This confirmed
Karl Chen - developer in the BOINC team in Berkeley - now in
astropulses the forum.

To the memory:

BOINC (Berkleley open Infrastructure for network Computing) makes
available only the network for actual scientific applications.

So that at all can be counted, it needs the ' scientific projects '
(SETI@home, Folding@home or astropulses). Each project is unabhaenging
of the others, has own servers, its own data base, one or more '
scientific ' applications (programs), which are loaded on the Client
and implemented there.

SETI@home and Folding@home are surely two such typically independent
projects with own server infrastructure.

With the first SETI@home BOINC Berkeley seems to want to go to
distribution however another way. BOINC is very flexibly developed.
Each project can berechenen different types of WU's with different
application programs.

The fact, that the new SETI@home XML WU's in astropulses the
Downloadbereich already it stands the assumption applied that
SETI@home BOINC could be delivered first as a further ' scientific
application ' in astropulses the project. This has Karl Chen confirms
now.

That means it who already counts astropulses WU's (WorkUnit's), easily
suddenly also SETI@home WU's can count on the new SETI@home BOINC.
That is because of the fact that each WU ' knows ' as standard
equipment, which application is needed around it to berechenen. If now
the astropulses Verwaltungserver (scheduler) assigns a new WU to a
Client PC and that is a SETI@home WU, then the BOINC CLient will then
compute independently the SETI@home BOINC application downloaden and
the WU thereby.

Since Dr. David Anderson one announced to have wanted to at the end of
November 10,000 participants with SETI@home BOINC there is the
possibility astropulses the beta test to open now, or however in
astropulses the Betatetst to examine only briefly whether to SETI@home
BOINC and then application functions briskly in its own project
available to make. For such a conversion application did not need to
be changed. And that will be the case naturally anyway in the long
term.

What can now intend Berkeley? When is the first SETI@home WU's
assigned? As soon as we know more, read their it here.

It appears to have been written in German and then run through a translator. But, you can kinda get the gist of what they are trying to say. Almost! 'lol

Thanks Ulli! Any updates on the start date?
