BOINC projects

Hi all,

Have any of you noticed the temperature differences of your CPU's when running different projects? I have noticed a difference of between 10% and 15% when running projects like QMC (higher) and Xtremelab and Rectilinear (both lower).

Any idea why this would be?

I can confirm this with other projects too,

with WCG (help defeat cancer project) the CPU's hotter than with Rosetta.
with SIMAP my RAM getts much hotter ??

I'd have to guess it has to do with the different ways that they do their computations. I would figure that something that is more L2 heavy would help raise the temperature on the CPU more, than something that wasn't has heavy on the L2 usage.

Just my conjecture though.

I found that runs the CPU hotter than SETI & DPAD by about 3-4C!

with prime95 my CPU runs hotter than with any boinc project I've been contributing in so far.

My 2 cents:

QMC runs hottest, followed by CPDN and BBC-Climate Change.
Primegrid, Seti, Rosetta, Einstein are approximately the same.
HashClash, RNC run cooler.

On the other hand, my ambient temps vary so much I couldn't know for sure with any project. 🙂

Hence, big pretty heatsinks and quiet but mucho CFM fans where needed. Maybe overkill, but I'm lazy....
