BOINC: (Mondobyte) Status of the Hordes

Hi Everyone,

Dunno if you wish to see updates on the hordes? That is what the Poll is about.

The Blue Horde has been reconstituted on BOINC (optimized BOINC clients) with at least 70 computers -- probably a lot more with a wide mix between 900MHz PIII up to and including 2.8GHz P4 (Some HT) and some miscellaneous Athlons (1GHZ or faster).

The Golden Hordes has had many hardware failures of late and is significantly impaired compared with former FaD days. BOINC (optimized) has been installed on about a dozen computers -- ranging from a Dual PIII/850 up to an Athlon XP2400+. Computers awaiting repair include an Athlon XP3000+ Mobile, several Athlon XP2000+, and an Opteron 170.

The White Horde has been reconstituted with BOINC running on about a dozen P4 2.4+ computers.

A new Horde will arise within a few days with about 25 or so P4 2.4+ computers.

The hordes seem to have made an overwhelming on SIMAP. I've risen to #1 on the SIMAP Team and #5 overall.

The hordes are making themselves felt to a much lesser extent in SETI. I've risen into the top 80 on the SETI Team and expect to be in the Top 40 within a month or less. I've risen into the top 30,000 or so overall. [Sorry ... Fat Fingered This]

PrimeGrid was added as a project on 1 Jan and should show some completions within a day or two and I hope that some impact in that project will become obvious as well.

Thanks for your support Team!

All these clients are running SETI (45%), SIMAP (45%), and PrimeGrid (10%).

I humbly apologize I hit the wrong button, My vote was for yes! sorry I can't read or type.

Nice split bty 🙂

You should rise quite nicely in the project ranks very shortly with the hordes in play 🙂

😛

first i've noticed the "horde updaye" but i like it.

the impact was sudden and dramatic in SIMAP. great to have you onboard

Always interested in the goings on of one of our top crunchers.

What does the hoard occupy their cycles with when not crunching DC? Or did you find a way to get a nice government grant? 🙂

Is your real name Matthew Lesko? 😛

Sorry that you were displaced from the #1 spot ... I suspect that my entry into the project was somewhat of an unexpected shock for the team ... and perhaps for some of the top crunchers as well. Someone had complained that the top 5 crunchers were all Europeans or Germans ... NO MORE!

This is the first of the BOINC horde updates but I did them periodically for FaD where I was #1 on Team Anandtech and #7 overall when the project abruptly ended. I contributed nearly 100 years of CPU cycles to FaD and personally accounted for nearly 1% of all results returned.

I hope that I can make a very positive difference in one or more BOINC projects ...

Coming from the founder of the SETI Team, that means a lot. I hope I can measure up.

Not that anyone may care, but I recently recruited Astro-Al who has joined the SETI team. Al is a close friend. I hope he will be welcomed, respected and appreciated for his accomplishments for the team.

Thanks again.

1. Typical mundane [edit]sp[/edit] work activities.
2. No.
3. No ... a better guess might be Alfred E. Neuman.

Sorry that you were displaced from the #1 spot .

🙂 don't worry about me. i'm a realist, i know my two l'il x2s can carry me only so far 😉

like i said, glad you're on the TeAm

Nice to see the hordes rampaging again...keep the updates coming

And if I missed a welcome thread for your buddy Al, a big welcome to him also.

It looks like MrWizer will be the next to succumb to the pillaging hordes.

Returning to such activities has deeply warmed the hearts (CPU's) of the hordes ...

There are many who have labored long and hard to ascend to the higher ranks of the team ... unfortunately, the hordes are driven by Power, patience, and persistence and hope to demonstrate this in the fullness of time ...

Be it for the TeAm or another cause, anyone who has labored long and hard to ascend the ranks should be happy to be passed

I have Know Mondobyte for many years. I remember when he explained to me what FM was. I trashed my machines on a regular basis. He told me that I could not continue repairing my machines with a hammer. He fixed me up with a tape back-up unit, which restored my machine to the condition it was before I trashed it. I simply put the tape in and rebooted. He is a cool cucumber when it comes to software & computers. I lost count on his machines after 120. He's should be considered Anandtech's sleeper member.
He is just getting wound up!

Seems my goals were a quite a bit too conservative. Apparently I will be within the Top 40 on the SETI team within the first 10 days in January ... and I'm right about 15,000 in individual rank heading for ... ???

Time for some new goals ...

Perhaps I should shoot for into the top 10 on the team by the end of February and into the top 2,500 individually ???

I think some folks didn't realize that I whizzed by like a ray of light ...

SETI: Looks like Hellburner will be at a little barbecue (horde style) over the weekend 😉

I wonder who will roast who 😛
