boinc as service

BOINC can be run as a Windows service. This requires the command-line interface (CLI) version of the core client, which is not available for download; you'll have to build it from the source code using Visual Studio .Net.

If you haven't already run BOINC on the machine, you'll need to run through the setup procedure (using either the CLI or the GUI client) in order to establish the account* files which are needed for the project URLs and authenticators.

so anyone out there that has visual studio and would like to help a poor man out? 😀

thanks

I may be barking up the wrong tree, but I just DL'd the newest Beta for Einstein and it allowed me in the install to set Boinc as a service. You may want to check into it. PM me if you need a link.

The cli is hidden-away in the BOINC-directory after installation, so you don't need to build it yourself. 😉

But, the easiest is to help beta-test v4.24, just remember to uninstall old version beforehand and choose to install v4.24 as service. 🙂

Uninstalling old BOINC-versinos will not lose your work, so it's not a problem.

Of course, you can also still use v4.19 and install as service, of so stop the gui, navigate to the BOINC-directyr and type
boinc_cli -install

If you're running XP, you very likely must go into the service-control-panel and choose to run the BOINC-service as "localsystem".

Start the service, or reboot. 😉
