Good news! I'm not sure if I'll go on to SETI 2 though. Thinking about doing D2OL full time.....

Swanny, BOINC != SETI 2. Think of it this way: BOINC is an "infrastructure for network computing." It's kind of like the way Folding@Home works; there is a client, which sends and retrieves the work units - this may be compared to BOINC. The Tinker, Gromacs, and G@H cores (or kernels) may be compared to what SETI 2 will be. I wouldn't be suprised if some of the folding projects might use the BOINC to run their cores.

Edit: my analogy with the current Folding@Home system is not necessarily the best; the BOINC system, as I understand it, will allow the user to select different cores from different projects, perhaps only one, or perhaps sharing their processing power between several projects.

How do I "./configure" and install on Win32? :confused:

ALSO: this pertains to the TeAm BOEWULF......
* Multiple participant platforms
The BOINC core client is available for most common platforms (Mac OS X, Windows, Linux and other Unix systems). The client can use multiple CPUs.

Yes, I know SETI 2 will be based on BOINC. I meant I might not go on from SETI to SETI 2. Don't worry yet though, I haven't quite decided what I'll do with my comps. Maybe I'll divided them up between the two.

Does anyone know if BOINC/SetiII will be dial up friendly? The only way that I have been able to do Seti is because of programs like SetiQueue and SetiHide.

It says somewhere on the page that the BOINC "client' will have WU caching of it's own.
As for dial up friendly, i assume projects will still make WU's that take well to slow connections.

Sounds like AstroPulse will be the 1st project to use the BOINC "client" & then later the Southern Hemisphere Research equivilent of SETI. I'm not sure which one is actually SETI2.

We'll, I would have found it good if Stanford would work together with those BOINC guys... and maybe with the dnet guys and a few others too. I mean client wise no one can beat the experience of those dnet guys (IMHO), those stanford folders do know how to include several projects into one client in the way BOINC intends too... and of course the Seti guys have all the publicity... and I like the idea of easily switching the project... esp. if the client is good.

BOINC!:D

My hope is that you can download the one BOINC client and be able to choose which projects the client will run and how much cpu time it will dedicate to each project.

I just want to know how to install on a Win32 machine.... :( I am sure I could get it going on one of my Linux rigs, but it would be more handy to use it on a non-production box considering its still Alpha release.

From the BOINC page:
"Resource share: if projects contend for resources, the amount allocated to a project is proportional to this number. "
