I finally got mine today, all 10 spindles (1000 discs). Most of the spindles, had issues with the bottom.

The OEM case qty is 4 spindles per box. Newegg shipped me three of the Sony boxes, one with air bags in two of the slots, and two spindles. Those spindles looked fine, and got to me fine, with no damage, to either the shrink-wrap or spindles. But the other two OEM cases... hoo boy. All of the spindles in those two, had shrink-wrap damage at the bottom, and most of them had damage to the spindles, either one or two tabs had broken partially or completely off, or where the spindle stick screws into the base had come unscrewed.

When opening the boxes, lifting up on the top of the spindle, should lift the whole thing, but in this case, the top simply came off. Those spindles had dust and scratches on the top, oh, perhaps five discs too.

So, it's like I got warehouse seconds or something.

Then again, maybe that was Newegg's intentional doing, seeing as how they probably weren't making much money off of me on those, given the BOGO, and the qty discount. So they gave me the poor-quality spindles or something. Or maybe they didn't even know, they just shipped me two OEM boxes, without opening them, and they were damaged when they were shipped to Newegg. IDK.

It's not all bad. Mine all appear to have been made in Taiwan, by Ritek. So that's better, in my mind, than the MII discs. Although the scratched up top discs do bother me.

Still, the discs were cheap. Only, I was planning on reselling some of the spindles, looks like that's out of the picture, unless I buy some blank spindles, and divide up the discs onto new spindles. Then, those will lack the Sony shrink-wrap packaging.

Edit: Some of the discs have some minor defects / blemishes. The one that I just burned, near the end, in Brasero (Linux CD/DVD burning app in Linux Mint), it appeared that Burn-proof kicked in, and then it resumed burning the final part of the disc at 8.0x speed. I leave it set at "Maximum speed", which is normally 16x max.

Sounds like a shipping problem from Newegg. Their packing has always been a bit iffy IMO, most of the time fine but occasionally just "tossed in the box" type shipping, with little or no packing material.

I got a pair of Sony +R 100 spindles from Newegg a few weeks back, both came individually wrapped in bubble wrap, no damage. I've burnt about a dozen or so under Windows, no problems yet-but I usually burn at slower than maximum speed as a matter of course.

Hi VirtualLarry,

I'm disappointed to hear that you received a few of your DVD+R spindles damaged and with a some scratched discs. Please email us at wecare@newegg.com with your order details so that we can take a look on how to help.

Thank you for the response. I figure sometimes things get damaged in shipping.

I've already ordered some blank 25-disc spindle cakeboxes from Meritline.com, that I plan on transferring the Sony DVD+Rs into. I'll just toss the first few discs, if they are scratched. At close to $0.11 / disc, I can afford to do that.

I have no desire to return the Sony spindles, it wouldn't be worth the cost.

Edit: I will say, to Newegg's credit, that I ordered some TDK DVD+R, and CD-R 100-spindles prior to the Sony DVD+Rs, and those arrived without issue. That's why I suspect that the damage to the Sony spindles, wasn't from shipping from Newegg to me. It's only going from their NJ warehouse to MA. And the two Sony spindles that were obviously re-packed by Newegg, arrived in pristine condition.

What do you guys do with all these DVDR's? I'm just curious because I have a bunch of them from years ago and I don't know what to do with them.

What cost are you referring to?
I'm sure NeweggSupport can send you a prepaid shipping label and won't charge you a restocking fee if you provide them your order details as requested.
