Wasted space? Arches are a wonderful thing. You should see all the crazy sorts of things that are being planned for airplanes, such as casinos, sleeping areas with actual beds, duty free mini malls where you can actually go and shop in the middle of a flight...

Besides, these types of "innovations" seem to be intended for extended length flights, over seas and what not where they're looking to maximize comfort, not space, for obvious reasons.

I remember Philippine Airlines had some of thier 747 upper decks converted to mini rooms where you could sleep. This was back in the late 70's and 80's. Hella expensive though.

Look at all that wasted space. No way a commercial airliner would do that.

Yeah, but I'm betting those are the pics of the first class area, where you pay thru the nose and get all the amenities. Us coach passenger types will be down next to the cargo hold, and look more like this!!!

Actually, you are right. A number of customers for the 78 have requested 9 across seating, instead of the 8 across that Boeing had assumed.

yea the new 747-800 and 787 interiors are superior to airbus. the boeings have larger windows..and more of them. plus the airbus windows are cheesy because they are deep inside deep tunnel like recesses..turrents or whatever that make the view even worse.

I saw everything in those pictures personally when I interned with Boeing last summer... including those interiors, composite fuselage test sections, and the wind tunnel. If I remember correctly, the interior stuff is in Tukwila. They did a lot of work with the LED lighting and playing around with different colors.

When did they start calling it the 787? It's been "7E7 Dreamliner" in all the press for the last couple of years.....

Good to see Boeing is not going to take it laying down from Airbus.

That is one wide looking fuselage. Where is the pool?

edit: Does Boeing offer a regional jet. aka canadair?

Wow.. flew plenty of flights on DC-10's and 737's in my day and a few 747's. Then got a ride in business class on a 777, and I was amazed. Dont fly to much lately, but that could always pick up again I suppose.

The dihedral angle on the wings looks curved.
***********

Sure does, looks like a bird of prey riding some thermals if you squint IMO.

No, the smallest in production is the 737-600, with 110 in 2class config. The 717 hold 106 in 2 class, but it has been retired by Boeing and last couple are rolling off the assembly line as we speak.
