Too bad Repubs didn't think of that before they instituted medicare part D, went to war, cut taxes to the bone simultaneously, cheered on the bankstas as they ran up the credit bubble of the ownership society, then bailed them out even as they demand austerity for the rest of the population...

Just when they have things pretty much the way they want them, the way that's of maximum benefit to the true Bush constituency, some damned fools want to change it, huh?

Now Jhhnn, having a working memory isn't just un-American, it's pro Kenyan-socialist! How do you expect to be taken seriously if you reference things that happened before the president took office??

Actually, I saw this weekend on MSNBC (Chris Mathews IIRC) that Obama was now at a deal with a ratio of almost 1:1. I don't believe MSNBC would misconstrue Obama's position.

So many 'deals' being pitched by both sides it's hard to keep up.

In passing the existing budget, they agreed in principle to pay for it, yet want to welch on the obligations they've helped to create, to extort other concessions with yet another hostage taking maneuver. That much is obvious to anybody other than the most extreme elements of their base, and won't sit well in the voting booth.

These deals are not about the existing budget. To borrow your words "That much is obvious to anybody other than the most extreme elements".

And Obama is the one refusing any such ST bill to deal with the current and near future budget.

That's not the position that Repubs took when they helped pass the current budget. That was the time to fight for less spending, not now, not over money they've already agreed to spend... not in a way that threatens the full faith & credit of the govt of the people.

Technically, we haven't had a budget for about 2 yrs or so now.

The bills passed have been short term stop-gap measures. The last was passed just a few months ago and brings us to the Aug 30 fiscal year-end.

And btw, they did fight for spending decreases then. They didn't get much.

What they are now fighting for are reductions in next year's budget, which must be done soon. It seems you agree that THIS is the time to fight for that?
