Body Worlds exhibition

Inspired by this thread, I thought I'd share some pics from the Body Worlds exhibit my fiancee and I went to back in April.

Not sure if these are OK to post (or have even taken for that matter) but my fiancee and I were pretty much the only two people in the whole exhibit since it was the last day of the last showing for the night of the exhibit before it was moved to it's new location, so no one was even there.

Might be NSFW or for those with a weak stomach either.

I saw... that is pretty cool. I am going to go see it tomorrow 🙂

**EDIT**
It loaded for me. It just took a little while longer.

It is science and art.

It is a little creepy. I heard from another ATOTer though that one of the exhibits made him a little angry, so I will keep my eye out for that.

We were planning to see it in NYC this past spring, missed due to work or some such though. 🙁

Pretty amazing stuff, kinda displaying both the art of nature and science.

My mother-in-law was trying to get members of her family to go see that when they had a family reunion here. 😕 That's not exactly a family thing to do with a bunch of kids.

I really have no interest in that type of stuff myself. Medical body organs and parts just make me......queasy. I can't even watch that stuff on The Discovery Channel.

I saw it when it was in Cleveland. I thought it was great, both educational and artistic as others have suggested. There was nothing creepy about it as far as I'm concerned.

Well this sort of thing is something I would have thought would of given my fiancee nightmares, but I guess since she's in the medical field (x-ray) she really enjoyed it, was kind of nice also since she knows all about the internal parts from her studies and was able to give me more insight as to what we were looking at over what the signs said.

wtf... when i went there they said you couldnt take pics.. 🙁 .. it was pretty cool going there, esp since im going into medicine (premed so far)...

I agree, this biggest issue was the Fetal Development section (which I didn't take pics in).
My fiancee was starting to freak out a little with all the baby fetuses that were in there, kind of disturbing but at the same time enlightening, reminded me of the medical museum in D.C. that I went to as a kid.

Well there wasn't anyone there except for the guy that took our ticket, there were a few other people that were viewing the exhibit like us but they went through pretty quickly.

Here it was called Bodies: The Exhibition. I went twice! Of course, I'm studying to be a doctor now too...

Actually I think thats what it was called when I went to it come to think of it, but I've seen it called Body Worlds also.

For Example: Link

I went to the London once too when I visited. Pretty fascinating yet the dead babies were disgusting.

So do they cut 'em up before or after the taxidermy?😉

I would love to know his process of plastenation.

How does he liquify the body and skeletal system while still retaining the cardiovascular system?

They go into it a little at the exhibit and I saw a show about taxidermy on the Discovery channel a little while ago that at the end went into how they did this but basically they pumped silicon into the cardiovascular system then once it solidified, they removed everything else.

Oh!... Thanks.

That makes a lot of sense. Silicon is a heat disperser, so it would hold up to high temperature and allow to liquify the soft tissue, the skeletal system then could be stripped off. That was very informative thanks.
