Bobby Knight keeping it real....

Despite the fact that my Syracuse Orangemen suffered a heartbreaking defeat to his Indiana Hoosiers in the 1987 NCAA Championship game, I've always liked him. He's a great coach and I like how he says whatever he wants because he doesn't care what other people have to say. I just wish he never recruited Keith Smart 😛

I think he wanted to wait a bit before he came out saying something.

Although he's a pretty big dick, that man does have my respect. He's a darn good coach (minus the strangling).

That's why he's not an NBA coach. While we can all agree with some of his points about how NBA players are pampered and how they didn't play as a team, does anyone honestly think he would have won the gold? You think he can go into an NBA locker room and tell these multi-millionaires what to do and what not to do? You think he could run an NBA team on his hard ass approach? Sorry Coach, but these men don't fear you the way the college boys do, they would revolt against you and get you fired. It's a players league in the NBA (they bring in the money after all) not a coaches.

is the NFL any different? there's tough coaches in the NFL that do exactly that.

Well the Lakers did try to bring in Coach K. Do you really think their players would have listened to him? Hell, Latrell choked his coach and look who is still in the NBA and who doesn't have a job...

I realize that and honestly I do think the NFL is a little different, although I understand your point. I think in the NFL the whole attitude is a little more hardcore, b/c of the pysicalness of the game itself. The "tough guy" attitude that the coaches project can help the team and keeps them all in line. For the most part, the NBA guys are more pampered and like the more laid back style. At least that's how I see it.

Knight is full of crap and all of his assertions are complete BS. The problem has little to do with the players and a lot to do with how the team was formed and how casually we treated the olympics. Also, anyone who says that the NBA has no concept of team is full of crap and most likely doesn't follow the NBA all that closely. HELLO?! Did anyone watch the NBA Finals?!! The better "team" won.

The idea of olympic tryouts is silly. If the team had been properly balanced and if the NBA schedule had permitted more practice, then you'd have seen a difference. The idea that knight who is a good but not great college b'ball coach could have done better than arguabl THE best coach in the NBA is ludicrous. Especially given his personality.
