Know what's funny? The infamous "Sarah" and I took classes from our respective schools over a satelite FROM BOB JONES UNIVERSITY. :Q

That's how we met. Her school still uses BJU (lol there's something AWESOME about going to "bj university" ;) ), but my school dropped those lame-ass classes after the first year.

They were pretty stupid for having the restriction on interracial dating. But they've dropped that last I heard.

That's news to me.

But you have to understand: the man who started the college and the state of society when he started the college.

That explains alot. And, since his son and grandson were both raised with the same priciples that he was, the school has remained virtually the same since.

I watched the funeral of the last BJ that died... he was a very well known and very well liked man!

I saw the man in charge on Larry King last year and he said he met with the board and they dropped the ban on interracial dating. I have no reason to believe he was lying at the time. Besides, bad press spreads easier than good press, so it doesn't suprise me that you wouldn't have heard of its repeal. Still the school seems a bit wacked, but whatever. It's down south somewhere what do you expect.

"you'dhave to be on acid to want to go to that hole."

I think you are missing the point, I would guess that the great majority of the kids that go there don't do acid or other drugs or get bombed out of their heads every weekend.

Don't knock them just because they are not killing off their brain cells every weekend.

Pardon me, but I have to be honest, either you are a complete moron or just VERY immature. College is there to prepare you for carreers and to give you an environment of higher learning. If you want to party all the time, go get a job at a local car wash for a few years... when you sober up and realize the value of learning, go back and get some.

Netopia, I'm living proof that you can drink yourself to oblivion, work full time, AND get a degree in four years.

I consider it a learning experience in more than one degree.

I'm with vi_edit and weiner, sorta. ;) University is not just a school to teach you a trade. It is also a place to open your eyes to the rest of the world. If that also means a few booze-fests, so be it. If I could afford it, I would not discourage my kids to choose a school away from home if it was a respected school in a good locale, even if meant it wasn't the absolute best school.

BJ is a school based on Calvanist principles... It is strongly religous...

Any PDAs were frowned upon & grounds for dismissal... such as holding hands in public...

When I was younger ( it may have changed now ), No women were allowed on campus in pants.

There was no question about drinking.

Dancing, listening to music, and going to the movies are frowned upon there too. Hmm, I wonder what they think of UT and Quake...

You know they arrested a man who visited their campus, simply because he was a homosexual? What's even more hilarious is that, one student came home from BJ(hee hee, I said BJ), announced he was gay and said it was the other students there that convinced him to acknowledge his homosexual tendencies:)

"The wee wee goes in the you know! The church will forgive you, my son!!" said the boys father as his son boarded the plane with his partner. Yes I know this person and yes he did not exactly say "wee wee" and "you know"

Bob Jones is stupid. I visited the campus when my brother went there. My family didn't know any better:( The students put on a whole facade when my parents met them, but since my brother is such a trusting human being, the students quickly took advantage of him and stole $300 from him. "It's to pay for my long distance! I'll pay you back!"

SuperGroove, how the hell does a college "arrest" someone?

Ummm....call the cops? My college did it on a weekly basis.

SuperGroove "You know they arrested a man who visited their campus, simply because he was a homosexual?"

They - implies the college.

"call the cops" ?
And why would the cops arrest someone because they are homosexual.

There appear to be a lot of details of the story left out, assuming it is even true.

Why can a store have someone arrested for not wearing shoes in it? Because it violates a code of conduct.

I don't have the BJU student handbook in front of me, but it wouldn't surprise me if there was something about homosexuality being against the code of conduct.

c'mon vi_edit, a store cannot have some arrested for not wearing shoes. It is not a code of conduct issue, that is a health violation and they can only refuse service because of it.

Do you seriously think that the police would arrest someone for violating a "code of conduct"?

Personally I would not go to Bob Jones or send my children there. But people should not spread false stories about them.

Ok bad example. My point is that it's a private college. It is also an INCREDIBLY conservative college. If they feel the desire too, they can make any thing they want illegal. If they feel that it is enough of a disturbance, they can call the cops to remove it. I was an both an RA and a member of the judicial council for my college, I know what can and does go on.

It would not surprise me that there is something in there about homosexuality being out of conduct and that it would not be allowed on campus. If the college so desires, they can call the cops to have the person removed from campus.
