boat race or something? upper westside, near George Washington Bridge

So around noonish i guess, I saw a lot of motor boats going pretty fast in the water on the Upper Westside of Manhatten. There were a lot of them, I was just wondering if anyone knows what that was about or if there's some kind of event/race or something going on?
